Joe O'Farrell and Rob Stephenson checked out two hotels when they were in Oslo in early December 2015. They are the Park Inn (our unofficial "official hotel") and the Hotel Perminalen, right next door and suggested by Geir Kløver, the director of the Fram Museum. The Perminalen would be particularly appropriate for those looking for budget accommodation. Geir also mentoned the Anker Hotel. Joe and Rob stayed in an apartment not far from the Central Station. It was excellent, modern, quiet, comfortable and with a large outdoor patio. On the ground floor is a grocery store so all our wants were provided for (except for ice cubes which don't seem to be plentiful in Oslo in winter!). (Bjørvika Apartments) Bruce Larsen, who is planning to attend, recommends the Bondeheimen where he arranged accommodation for a touring choral group he is a member of. There are some B&Bs that might be worth a try. Airbnb presents some possibilities, too.
Park Inn by Radisson https://www.parkinn.com/hotel-oslo
Øvre Slottsgate 2cThis well-located hotel, within walking distance of the bus route to Bygdøy and the dock which the Bygdøy ferry uses, is the closest thing to an "official hotel" for the SouthPole-sium. Several of those who will be attending have already made bookings (see notations in red in the list of those attending). The hotel is offering attendees slightly lower rates and are holding 50 rooms until April 25th. The rates, which include breakfast, are NOK 1,245 (single) and NOK 1,445 (double). (May and June are very busy months in Oslo so hotels are not able to do an awful lot on special rates.) To book these rooms, contact the Meetings and Events Manager, Ms. Vibeke Mauritz Hansen, who can be reached by email at: vibeke.mauritz.hansen@parkinn.com or by phone at +47 22 400 189."The Park Inn is steps away from top shopping and sightseeing destinations. "Our new state of the art budget hotel opened in mid-summer of 2013. With its central location, Smarthotel is easily accessible from the National Theatre station; only a few minutes walk away. Within walking distance you'll also find the Royal Palace, National Assembly, the quays of Aker Brygge, the Opera House and the Vigeland Sculpture park. Using its website I found (on 20 November 2016) that a single room for one person for one night (13 May 2017) is 835 NOK or $97, £78, or €92.

Bjørvika Apartments in Oslo are perfect for you who travel alone, for couples, friends or colleagues, and even families or groups. You can choose your apartment from a selection of three different apartment types with one, two or three bedrooms. If you are in need of a baby cot or an extra bed, we can arrange this for an additional charge. All buildings have elevators for easy access to the various floors. If you like to enjoy a cup of coffee outside in the morning sun, you might be interested to know that most of our apartments have private balconies. In addition, there is a communal roof terrace that is open to everyone."I stayed in one of these apartments in December 2016 and I will be staying in one this December as well (while attending the annual Amundsen Memorial Lectures and checking out arrangements for the SouthPole-sium). I can highly recommend them based on my stay. Clean, modern, quiet, on the whole conveniently located. I had a two bedroom apartment with a very large patio, open concept kitchen, dining, living room.
