Dear Antarctican - Dear Bibliophile,
Today, a hundred years ago, Captain Scott and his four companions reached the South Pole.
In recognition of that anniversary I've chosen today to launch the Registration period for the SouthPole-sium to be held in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, on the 15-17th of June 2012.
Attached are three documents:
1) The preliminary Agenda - Schedule
2) The Registration form, and
3) A form to request accommodation with a "Local Host."

Over the past few months, 45 of you have indicated that you're definitely coming (see http://www.antarctic-circle.org/gathering-attendees.htm) and 37 have "expressed interest" (see http://www.antarctic-circle.org/gathering-interested.htm)
The attendance is being limited to a total of 100 so it's to your advantage to register early. (The fee is returnable without any penalty up to 48 hours before the opening of the SouthPole-sium.)
This will not be a typical conference. The emphasis will be on discussion. All are invited to make short, informal presentations on Antarctic subjects of interest to them. All are encouraged to bring something to "show and tell:" a book, photograph, letter, artifact, or painting. It will be an informal gathering and there will be plenty of opportunities to enjoy good food, drink and conversation.
Although you could typically register for something like this by e-mail, I've decided to avoid dealing with credit cards and such so, although you can send in the Registration and Local Host forms electronically, you'll still need to post a check to the address below. (As I say in the Registration form. if you don't have an easy way to pay in US dollars or British pounds, you can wait until you arrive in Jaffrey and pay in dollars.)
The charge for the weekend is $95 or £62 and includes two receptions, two lunches, snacks at the start of each day and during the morning and afternoon breaks, a chicken barbecue dinner on Saturday, a theatrical presentation, music, Antarctic movies, and a special Keepsake publication. There is also an option at $50 or £33 for those who either don't want to attend the day sessions but want to come to the two receptions and the dinner or for those who only want to attend the day sessions.
There are some interesting options for accommodation which are presented at http://www.antarctic-circle.org/gathering-accommodation.htm. Perhaps the most affordable and interesting will be the opportunity to stay with a Local Host.

As June approaches I will be sending out the occasional e-mail with new or revised information but mostly just to those who have already registered or I expect will.
