Below is a listing of separate entries of persons included in each of the encyclopedias. Some subjects and places are also included. These are reasonably complete except for STEWART, the entries in which were only checked against those appearing in the other encyclopedias. (In other words, there are many more entries in STEWART than any of the other titles, a total of approximately 16,000.) Note that persons may be mentioned, sometimes quite extensively, in other entries without having their own separate entry. An example would be a person associated with a specific expedition where the expedition's entry would cover the person as well.
The numbers indicate the approximate length of the entry in pages. For STEWART, an X indicates that there is no entry for that person or subject; a blank indicates that an entry does exist; and a dash indicates either the subject is beyond the scope of the book (e.g. non-Antarctic islands) or is covered to some extent under other headings. For some summary totals, go to the very bottom of the table.[HOWGEGO] Encyclopedia of Exploration [Parts 2 & 3: 1800 to 1850 and 1850 to 1940] Raymond John Howgego. I've only inspected Parts 2 and 3 of this title. The major Antarctic entries in Part 1, as listed on the publisher's website, include James Cook, the Forsters, Edmond Halley, William Hodges, Yves-Joseph Trémairec de Kerguelen and Anders Sparrman, and perhaps others I missed. I do not have the length of these entries so they only appear below as 'Part I.'
