THE ANTARCTIC PETREL
Launched: 16 December 2008.
This expedition publication was apparently produced aboard the Nimrod on the way from Britain to the Antarctic. It consists of two volumes with illustrated covers, as shown. Two volumes—No. 1 and No. 2—were issued in single made-up copies. These now reside in the Alexander Turnbull Library in Wellington, New Zealand.
The call numbers are MS-0261 and 0262, respectively. There is also a microfilm version.
It is in holograph in various hands including "Nemo" (Shackleton's nom de plume, which he also used in the Aurora Australis). Mounted photographs, drawings and cartoons.
Vol I. consists of 144pp., all on letterhead: BRITISH ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION 1907. Pp 11-14 are devoted to "Birds of the Southern Ocean".
Vol II. 103pp. Pp 12-28 are devoted to "Birds of the Southern Ocean". pp 12-28.

Scope and Contents: Periodical compiled by crew of S.Y. Nimrod, while wintering under Mount Erebus, in the Ross Sea. Contains stories, songs, sketches and diary extracts relating to life at sea on the Nimrod. Also includes ornithological descriptions and sketches.
Also typescript account of the wreck of the Nimrod by James Combes.
