No 303. "People of Perfection," Sir Douglas Mawson clipped from the side of an Australian milk carton. Size: circa 6.75" x 2.75"
Recto: People of Perfection
Sir Douglas Mawson. (1882-1958)
Antarctic Explorer.
From the days he grew up in the Hills area to his scientific explorations of the Antarctica, Douglas Mawson always strived for perfection.
Regarded as the first person to conduct major explorations outside of Australia, Mawson did so with strength and enthusiasm, and was envied by others.
In 1908 he led an expedition to the South Magnetic Pole where, in extremely harsh conditions, he performed significant geological investigations. Just two years later he established The Australian Antarctic Expedition, which not only gathered scientific information but also set up radio relay stations. During his travels he made many new discoveries including biological species both on and off the land.
Verso: blank waxed milk carton cardboard.
